Libra 8°

The traditional symbol for this degree, one of the 360 Sabian symbols first recorded in 1925: “A fireplace still blazes with warmth inside a house that has been completely emptied of people.”

THE SYMBOL

“A fireplace still blazes with warmth inside a house that has been completely emptied of people.”

Libra 8° · Sabian symbols, devised 1925 (Marc Edmund Jones, clairvoyant Elsie Wheeler)

Remember to round up: a planet or point at 9°30′ takes the 10° symbol, not the 9° one.

What this degree describes

Warmth keeps burning in a house nobody is left in, heat and light doing their whole job for an audience of no one. This degree carries real ache: the fire didn't fail, the home did, and the gap between the two is the entire feeling of the image. Libra, which measures things by relationship, meets here its opposite, comfort with nothing left to relate to, and has to reckon honestly with what that costs.

When a planet or point falls here

A planet at this degree can indicate warmth or resource that keeps being generated even after the relationship or household it was meant for has emptied out. Venus or the fourth house here can describe someone maintaining a capacity for closeness that currently has nowhere to land. It rewards asking honestly whether the fire is still worth tending, or whether it is time to let it go out and build a new one elsewhere.

What warmth are you still keeping lit for a house that emptied out a while ago?
