Electional astrology: how to choose the right day
Most astrology reads a chart that already exists. Electional astrology does the opposite: it chooses the moment, so the chart of the beginning is a good one. It is the oldest practical branch of the art, the one you use to pick a day to marry, launch, sign, move, or begin, and it rewards patience over superstition.
The method, in plain terms
Every election starts with the Moon, the fastest body in the sky and the one that carries a beginning forward. Four questions do most of the work:
Is she waxing? A growing Moon lends itself to things you want to grow. Is she void of course? If the Moon will make no more aspects before leaving her sign, the tradition says the venture "goes nowhere," so we steer around void windows. Is she applying to a benefic? The strongest days have the Moon moving toward an aspect with Venus (love, value) or Jupiter (fortune, expansion), and away from Mars (haste, strife) and Saturn (delay, cold). And is the right planet strong? Each kind of beginning has a ruler: Venus for love and home, Mercury for contracts and messages, the Sun and Jupiter for launches and recognition. We want that planet dignified, ideally on an angle, and above all direct, not retrograde.
That last rule is why timing matters so much: signing under a retrograde Mercury, or marrying under a retrograde Venus, is the classic thing electional astrology exists to help you avoid. Finally, the tradition is hour-aware, choosing not just the day but the planetary hour within it, which is why the exact best time shifts with your location.

What is electional astrology?
The art of choosing an auspicious moment to begin. Rather than reading a chart that already exists, you pick the moment so the chart of the beginning is favorable: a waxing Moon, not void of course, applying to a benefic, with the intention's ruling planet strong and direct.
What is a void-of-course Moon?
The Moon is void when she will make no more major aspects before leaving her current sign. The old rule is that things begun then tend to come to nothing, so electional astrology avoids the void for anything you want to last.
Do I need my birth chart?
Not for the universal best dates, which rank the sky itself. Your chart matters for the strongest personal timing, since the ideal moment is the one that also speaks well to you. That is the personalized reading.
