Libra 5°

The traditional symbol for this degree, one of the 360 Sabian symbols first recorded in 1925: “A teacher lays out for his students, from the ground up, the inner knowledge a whole new way of living could be built on.”

THE SYMBOL

“A teacher lays out for his students, from the ground up, the inner knowledge a whole new way of living could be built on.”

Libra 5° · Sabian symbols, devised 1925 (Marc Edmund Jones, clairvoyant Elsie Wheeler)

Remember to round up: a planet or point at 9°30′ takes the 10° symbol, not the 9° one.

What this degree describes

Teaching, here, is not information transfer, it is a foundation laid in full view so students can build an entire new structure on top of it later. This degree trusts that some knowledge has to be handed over completely, first principles included, or the thing being taught can never actually support what comes next. Libra's fairness shows up as intellectual generosity: nothing withheld, nothing kept back to protect the teacher's advantage.

When a planet or point falls here

A planet at this degree often shows a genuine gift for teaching from first principles rather than surface technique, building others up rather than keeping the real knowledge private. Mercury or Jupiter here can favor a mentor whose students go on to build something the teacher never got to see finished. On the Midheaven, it can describe a career defined by what it hands forward, not what it holds back.

What foundation have you actually shown someone in full, instead of keeping the key piece to yourself?
