What a Full Moon is for
At the Full Moon the Sun and Moon stand opposite each other, and what began at the New Moon two weeks earlier comes to light. It is the culmination of the month: things are seen clearly, feelings run near the surface, and it is a natural moment to finish, celebrate, or let something go. The sign the Moon is in names the part of life that gets lit up; the Sun's sign across from it names what you balance against it.
The names, and where they come from
The almanac names (Wolf, Snow, Worm, Pink, Flower, Strawberry, Buck, Sturgeon, Corn or Harvest, Hunter's, Beaver, Cold) are the North American names popularized by farmers' almanacs, drawn from seasonal life in the northern hemisphere. Two have a rule rather than a month: the Harvest Moon is the Full Moon nearest the September equinox, which in 2027 is September 15, 2027, and the Hunter's Moon follows it. A Blue Moon, by the calendar rule used here, is a second Full Moon in the same month.
